CELEBRATING LOVE

I'm celebrating my parents 26 years of marriage today! Yaaay for them!! What a journey-right!?
It's so hard to digest in todays society, with marriage taken so lightly and divorce being dealt out like a casual game of cards.
I'm speaking from a woman's perspective when I say that many of us are scared of marriage, yet many of us yearn for it.
I watch television shows like Basketball Wives, Brandy and Ray J, The Real Housewives of Atlanta and all of these shows are predominently black shows. However, what really ties them together is the tramatically negative display of marriage they portray and the women that are not married are in such a lonely and desperate state, pathetically searching for true love. Can someone say, we miss the Cosby Show! (SMH)
The fact that match.com is popular is a headturner for me by itself. When we take the REAL out of 'real love' by matchmaking through electronic computer devices, something should tell you we've made a wrong turn somewhere.
Today I'm celebrating real love.
They met in grade school and got together in highschool. Had two girls, worked hard, built there lives together and set the best example they could. Like no one on earth, they're not perfect but they've managed to stay happily married for 26 years.
Call it traditional, but I think if we returned to this "old school" way of building relationships, we would collectively be in a better state!

  1. People are so consumed of this fake perception of love that they think they're going to get from knowing someone for a couple of months or years. People are so concerned about the "feeling" they get from love instead of looking at the whole picture and realizing how big love actually is. Love is not just feeling like the person is someone you can't live without. Love is everything! I love this person for who they are, with me and when I'm not around. I love this person for their finances, their credit score, their drive for success. I love this person for their capabilities to be a great parent and having their stuff together. Love is everything, not just the great time you might of had the night before. All of these shows are portraying these false images of what love is. The "Flavor of Love" is all about who can shake their butt the best and who puts out and who doesn't. Meanwhile, all these shows are only taped for about a month or two while we consistently tune in for 6 months. If love is that easy and that fast, I believe the true word is lust. We need people in the world like our parents to show what real love is (the good and the bad, up and downs). Love takes courage, love takes trust, love takes respect, love takes commitment, love is NOT EASILY BROKEN! Real love hasn't died, people just don't know how to find it anymore.
